Who We Are

Home of the first public library in the State of Illinois, founded in 1819

The Albion Public Library system is located at 6 N Fourth Street. The Albion Public Library provides free services to all residents living within the city limit boundaries. Services are also available to those not paying city property taxes through the purchase of a non-resident card.

Albion Public Libarary is a member of the Illinois Heartland Library System.  The Illinois Heartland Library System is a community of multitype libraries developing partnerships and sharing resources.  Illinois Heartland Library System has 594 member libraries: 38 Academic, 231 Public, 260 School and 65 Special.

Albion Public Library offers our members access to additional resources through our online catalog.

Mission of the Albion Public Library

  • To provide books, materials and services to meet the needs of the residents and community, regardless of race, creed, color, occupation or financial position.
  • To serve as a community resource for reliable information.
  • To provide guidance to children, young adults, and adults in the use of educational, informational, and recreational materials.
  • To keep the collection up-to date, useful and attractive through continual weeding and purchasing of new material.
